In the same manner as many cities across the US, gentrification has proved to be a debilitating and ruthless force that has displaced thousands of people from their communities and erased much of their history within it. THIS IS WHAT WE DO tells the story of a community’s struggle to preserve a historic park in East Austin, TX and prevent the City of Austin from passing a Master Plan that could alter the landscape, along with its rich cultural history. Through the creation of an impromptu event known as Chicano Park Day, the East Austin Community unites to celebrate their culture and openly show the City of Austin their refusal to go unheard.
