Joel is a young man from Mexico, whose life took on a sudden sense of urgency, when he was diagnosed with blood cancer. Now, having made his way to America with the intent of keeping himself alive, Joel comes to realize the grim reality of life in America and the even greater struggle of trying to survive within it. From being imprisoned for illegal re-entry to not being able to secure work, Joel has faced and continues to face many obstacles in his pursuit to stay alive.
