CINEMATOGRAPHER
After the civil war ended in 1865, Freedom communities (also known as freedmen communities) were established by formerly enslaved African Americans throughout the Central Texas area. Often anchored by churches and with little resources, such communities built their own homes, businesses, and schools from the ground up. Austin Black Freedom Communities sheds light on these often forgotten communities and explores their rich history through interviews with historians, archaeologists, and descendants.
